The Challenge

Young people in rural areas experience limited access to education, training, and formal job markets, which perpetuates a cycle of poverty and hinders economic development. Additionally, rural economies often struggle to provide sustainable livelihoods that attract and retain essential young talent, leading to a demographic imbalance and potential rural-to-urban migration.

The Opportunity

Youth serve as an indispensable local talent pool for agricultural enterprises with aging workforces. Meanwhile, investing in young people creates career opportunities and new skills, and ensures the sustainability of the businesses’ operations. They also tend to be digitally fluent and eager to learn, which can open doors for businesses to modernize their operations. Root Capital acts as a connector and educator, placing and paying young people to intern in agricultural enterprises through our Talent Partnerships program and supporting them with the skills they need to succeed.

Our Impact

Enabling young people to build careers in agriculture reduces youth unemployment, promotes innovation and diversification within the agricultural sector, and curbs migration.
