Root Capital Joins Government, Corporate, and Nonprofit Climate Leaders as Newest Member of the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance

CAMBRIDGE, MA | OCTOBER 27, 2021 – Today, the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance announced that Root Capital is among six new organizations invited to join its critical work advancing a global circular bioeconomy that is climate neutral, inclusive, and prospers in harmony with nature.

The Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (CBA) was established in 2020 by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, with the goal of accelerating global transition to a circular bioeconomy-an economic model that uses renewable natural capital to holistically transform our land, food, health, and industrial systems with the goal of achieving sustainable wellbeing. Through a learning and networking platform, the CBA connects the dots between investors, companies, local communities, government, and nonprofits to advance this transformative economic model while restoring biodiversity that is vital to the health of our planet.

As global leaders gather in Glasgow next week for COP26, the urgency of the climate crisis has never been clearer. Without broad-reaching climate action now, the world faces a precarious future. This is especially true for smallholder farmers and rural communities on the frontlines of climate impacts.

Last year, Root Capital launched a comprehensive Climate Resilience Roadmap detailing our plans to support hundreds of agricultural enterprises to conserve vulnerable ecosystems and help farming families adapt. Over the next five years, we will reach 500,000 farmers through localized climate action that preserves the environment and curbs greenhouse gas emissions while protecting rural livelihoods. So far this year, we have disbursed $37 million to enterprises committed to climate action and expanded our agronomic and climate resilience advisory services to businesses in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa.

Root Capital is proud to join the elite ranks of the CBA, whose members provide expertise and implement projects related to the circular bioeconomy around the globe. The five other new members announced today are: Carpathia, Chantecaille, Natural Resources Institute Finland, Space for Giants and Woodbois.

Current activities of the CBA include forest landscape restoration and agroforestry projects in Africa, Europe, South America, and Asia. The CBA is also building a global network of Living Labs for Nature, People and Planet that will catalyze action on the ground and demonstrate how harmony can be achieved by empowering nature and people. Root Capital is collaborating with CBA members, such as the Sustainable Agriculture Network, to partner with stakeholders across the coffee value chain and introduce new tools/approaches that support a sustainable and resilient coffee sector.
